Newport City Council Cosy Homes Scheme
The Newport City Council ”Cosy Homes Scheme” aims to insulate wall cavities and lofts in all council tenanted and leasehold domestic properties within the City by August 2008.
Specialist contractors will install cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and hot water tank jackets to bring the properties up to present day standards. Where necessary, loft ventilation will be enhanced to avoid any problems which could occur due to the 270mm (10.5 inches) of insulation that regulations now require.
Benefits to householders include increased levels of comfort with noticeably warmer homes and lower energy bills.
Finance for the project will be provided through a combination from Newport City Council’s capital budget and the Utility Companies “Energy Efficiency Commitment” (EEC) scheme. Every one pound spent by Newport City Council will effectively attract an additional two pounds grant from the Scottish & Southern Energy and the British Gas EEC schemes.
The project is managed by the South East Wales Energy Agency based at Clarence House in Newport. Further information can be obtained by telephoning the Newport City Council Call Centre, Area Housing Offices or the Energy Agency on Newport 01633 214 101.
